We have tested this Vintage Projector and were excited by the results, however we are very concerned about delivery - We may suggest sending this item via UPS which we have had success shipping Electronics before
We tested the Projector and it lights up and the gears and belts all engage. We did not have any film to run, but considering it’s age and how it snapped to attention once we plugged it in and turned it on we are certain that with a little tinkering and a classic movie to run you will love this grand old movie projector.
There is an input for an external speaker and microphone on the control side.
• A unique feature to this projector is there is a mirror mounted to the projector to the point the light out the back.
• The back side pulls up to create a small projection screen.
• We did not run film through the projector so here are my observations.
• Projector is sold as is beyond this description.
• Power verified and cord is in very good condition
• Bulb verified
• Motor verified and runs smoothly
• Belt is intact, but considering the age a replacement suggested
• Mirror and rear screen verified
• Speaker is intact, but we did not run a Movie to confirm clarity
• Projector arms mount on the inside cover
• The outside of the case shows minimal wear since the carrying case cove has protected the surface
• Inside of the case is remarkably well maintained
• The outside case and inside mechanism are labeled TSI Technical Services Inc.
We will pack vintage electronics carefully and will use clean new bubble wrap, and Kraft paper. If special packing requirements, beyond what I have explained, are required please contact us to ensure the extra packing costs are not required. This item due to its size may require FedEx or UPS professional packaging. We will add a packing charge if it is needed. Item will be insured at the purchase price.
- Please check both shipping options as the buyer’s location can drive the USPS, FedEx or UPS price drastically. We pass on my shipping savings to buyers so this will impact the prices as well.
Items in this auction were discovered in a local estate sale and were checked as noted in the auction description and pictures. Please ensure you understand what you are purchasing and ask questions prior to bidding if you are unsure.

Last American Maker of 16mm Movie Projectors Closes Plant
July 30, 1989
PLAINVILLE, Conn. (AP) _ The last American maker of 16-millimeter movie projectors is calling it quits, a victim of Japanese competition and the rise of videotape.
Kalart Victor Corp., which makes movie projectors, educational television products, audio visual and film editing equipment, plans to close its plant Monday, said the company’s president, Leonard J. Quartin.
Quartin said the 67-year-old company has struggled since the early 1980s, when video cassette recorders and hand-held camcorders became popular.
The company’s products - halfway between the 35mm film used for Hollywood movies and the 8mm film once popular for home movies - were purchased mostly by schools, governments, and businesses for instructional use.Kalart Victor made projectors for every U.S. embassy in the world and supplied some city school systems with projectors for each classroom. The city of Los Angeles alone bought thousands of projectors from the company, Quartin said.
But the rise of VCRs meant that instructional films could be shown on television, a much easier technology for teachers and companies to use, Quartin said.
″The ease of using a cartridge or cassette far outweighs the steps in making movies where you have to put reels on the projector, ″ Quartin said.
″The interest in VCRs created a decline in 16-millimeter projectors and film, ″ he said. ″Home movies have disappeared, taken over by camcorders. ″
At its peak during the 1970s, Kalart Victor employed 250 people. Recently, there have been less than 50 people working at the plant.
Quartin said Kalart Victor is the last company in the United States producing 16mm movie projectors. He said three Japanese producers will now have the entire market - albeit a small one - to themselves. Japanese companies also dominate the VCR market.
As recently as 10 years ago, he said, there were five U.S. companies making the projectors, which grew in popularity after World War II.
At one time, the industry produced 100,000 projectors per year; the number has dwindled to about 15,000, Quartin said.
″The only reason to have 16 millimeter now is to use it for a large audience, ″ Quartin said, since it can be projected on a large screen.
