    Description

This iconic poster, by artist, John Van Hamersveld, is an authentic, original 2
    nd
printing of the event, which took place 50 years ago this month,
    February 10, 1968
! The venue was the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and the full line up, Soft Machine, Blue Cheer, Electric Flag, and Jimi, was mind-blowing, to say the least! The poster has been seen by most Rock music fans, and over the span of time since the event, has become one of the most iconic and desirable concert posters of all time! It ain’t the flying eyeball, but then. nothing is! (And if you want that one, check out my other listings. I have a pristine 4
    th
    printing of that one available).
This poster measures approximately 19 7/16 x 27 5/8, and is on card stock paper. The condition, I would say, is a strong very good to excellent, or C7, using the iGuide Universal Ten Point Grading Scale. The poster itself, is very nicely preserved, however, there are some minor issues in the corners and around the edges, all of which could be easily fixed and restored to, I think, probably near mint condition. If you wanted to linen-back it, it would look superb, and that is an acceptable way of restoring and maintaining poster art, and does not reduce the value at all. In fact, it raises it!
The poster has pinholes and crunching in the corners, but all the material of the poster is there, except for the upper left corner, where a tiny triangular area, roughly ¼ inch x ¼ inch, has a bit of the blue paper peeled back to expose the unprinted paper underneath. The entire corner is still intact, but a tiny bit of the paper separated and the blue printed part peeled back and fell off. Still, it’s tiny, and all of these issues are easily restorable if you linen-back it, or almost invisible, even if you just frame it properly, as is. There are also pinholes in the middle on the borders.
The rest of the poster is in fairly excellent condition, which is why it would look great framed or linen-backed. There is, however, some staining and a crease or two on the rear. Not sure what caused it, as the poster’s been stored in an airtight, smoke and light free environment for 15 years, but pics don’t lie, so check ‘em out, and you can see all the condition issues I’ve outlined. All condition issues are in the corners or around the borders. The rest of the poster looks amazing!
